<p>The process of polishing surfaces (2b) of plate-shaped products such as surfaces of an edge band (2) or a decorative layer coated with wood or wood substitute materials, comprises making the surface having the plate-shaped product, and polishing the surface by irradiating or treating using a heat source such as an irradiated plasma source directed onto the surface, a flame (4) produced from the plasma source or a laser radiation source, where a layer is applied in the form of the edge band or the decorative layer on the product before exposing the surface to the heat source. The process of polishing surfaces (2b) of plate-shaped products such as surfaces of an edge band (2) or a decorative layer coated with wood or wood substitute materials, comprises making the surface having the plate-shaped product, and polishing the surface by irradiating or treating using a heat source such as an irradiated plasma source directed onto the surface, a flame (4) produced from the plasma source or a laser radiation source, where a layer is applied in the form of the edge band or the decorative layer on the product before exposing the surface to the heat source. The surface includes a layer of plastic such as a layer made of an acrylic material. The layer to be applied on the product is irradiated with the plasma source or is treated with the flame emitted from the plasma source thus connecting the layer to the product.
