A fuel supply shut off system is provided with multiple sensors 6, 6a, 6b to detect hazards associated with a boiler 2 or other piped fuel supplied appliance. The system is adapted to sense oil and/or water leaks, fire and/or overheating, supply gas and/or carbon monoxide leaks, and incorrect pressure of a heating system. The sensors are linked, via a controller 7, in such a way that should any hazard(s) be detected by one or more of the sensors, a signal is passed via the controller to shut off the fuel supply, preferably using a dedicated shut off valve 1. Furthermore, the boiler/appliance may be disabled and/or an alarm signal may be generated. For installation simplicity in retrofit installations, an existing remote sensing fire valve activated by a temperature sensing phial (5, fig.2) may have its phial heated by a resistance heater (9, fig.2) actuated by the controller, so as to shut off the fuel supply without requiring an extra shut off valve in the fuel supply path. In use, the system is designed to improve boiler safety and draw a householderâ s attention to hazards within a heating system boiler or other piped fuel supplied appliance. |
