FIELD: chemistry. ^ SUBSTANCE: invention relates to biochemistry, particularly use of heterotrophic ammonia-oxidising bacteria (HAOB) in order to remove carbon and nitrogen contaminant compounds from waste water. The method involves culturing heterotrophic bacteria in an activated sludge environment and the removing carbon and nitrogen from the waste water. According to the physiological characteristics of HAOB and the principles of combined oxidation of carbon and nitrogen, the method is able to achieve simultaneous removal of carbon and nitrogen under the condition that cell growth does not occur. The process can be carried out at temperature 6-40C. Excess sludge is not formed during the process. The invention enables to control the process and composition of products of anaerobic ammonia oxidation through controlled addition of the organic carbon source, and is able to realise zero-accumulation of NO3-N in the nitrification process. The invention enables to fully utilise existing activated sludge systems to remove carbon and nitrogen. ^ EFFECT: avoiding the need to build new facilities, and all carbon and nitrogen removal processes can be realised in a single reactor. ^ 15 cl, 4 dwg, 31 tbl, 21 ex |
