<p>A foodstuff slicer includes a support frame (2) carrying a support (10) with a support surface and a slicing blade (8) including a cutting edge situated above the support surface, whereby a foodstuff article may be slid along the support surface into contact with the cutting edge to cut a slice from it. A guard member (32) including at least one guard limb (46) is guided to move transversely to the support surface between an operative position, in which it extends in front of and adjacent to the cutting edge and prevents access to the cutting edge, and an inoperative position, in which it permits access to the cutting edge. A release member (30) is guided to move parallel to the support surface and includes at least one release limb (36). One of the guard limb (46) and the release limb (36) includes a ramp formation (56) and the other of the guard limb (46) and the release limb (36) includes a follower (58) cooperating with the ramp formation (56), whereby movement of the release member (30) results in movement of the guard member (32) between the operative and inoperative positions.</p> |
