<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display apparatus that has satisfactory display quality. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display apparatus includes: a first substrate having a pixel electrode disposed in an active area, a first cylindrical spacer disposed on the active area side in an intermediate area between the active area and a seal area surrounding this active area, and a second cylindrical spacer disposed on the seal area side; a second substrate having a peripheral light shield layer extending to the intermediate area, a first color filter with a first width laid over the peripheral light shielding layer right above the first cylindrical spacer in the intermediate area and formed in the shape of a band or an island, a second color filter with a second width, different from the first width, laid over the peripheral light shielding layer right above the second cylindrical spacer and formed in the shape of a band or an island, and an overcoat layer laid on the first and second color filters; a closed looped sealing material disposed in the seal area and bonding the first and second substrates; and a liquid crystal layer held between the first and second substrates. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
