<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical monitor device capable of easily visually confirming the transmission state of an optical signal, even when the transmission state of the optical signal is indicated by a sporadic optical signal and to provide an optical signal detection method. <P>SOLUTION: A transmission information holding means 81 holds transmission information being information for showing that the optical signal having power exceeding a previously set threshold is transmitted, when the optical signal is transmitted in an optical transmission path.
