<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric power converter capable of performing more effective protection control by being constituted so as to provide priority between a plurality of protection circuits. <P>SOLUTION: On a control signal line from a motor control microcomputer 206 to a gate driving part 109, buffers 202a, 202b are provided on the downstream side than a buffer 201. The buffer 201 outputs a high signal for every semiconductor switching element of upper and lower arms as a control signal when there is an input of a three-phase open signal and a three-phase short signal. The buffers 202a, 202b output a Low signal as the control signal when there is an input of the three-phase short signal. Thus, protection operations (three-phase short) by the buffers 202a, 202b is executed in priority to a protection operation (three-phase open) by the buffer 201.
