<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve timing control device for an internal combustion engine capable of properly coping with the occurrence of operation failure. <P>SOLUTION: The device includes: a hydraulic valve timing variable mechanism for changing valve timing; a hydraulic lock mechanism for locking the valve timing by a lock phase; and an oil control valve for changing a hydraulic supply form to each of the mechanisms. The valve timing is adjusted by changing an operation state of each mechanism through the operation control of the oil control valve. The occurrence of such operation failure that a following speed of the actual valve timing to target valve timing decreases is detected. When the valve timing upon the detection of operation failure is the most advanced angle phase VTemax (lock phase) (S202: YES), or when the valve timing upon the detection of operation failure is the most retarded angle phase VTemin (S204: YES), the execution of a process for resuming from the operation failure (S203 or S205) is started. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
