<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wire grid type polarizing element exhibiting high environmental property and more uniform optical characteristics compared to the prior arts, and to provide a method for manufacturing the polarizing element. <P>SOLUTION: The wire grid type polarizing element includes a substrate, metal layers formed into stripes in a plan view on one surface of the substrate, first dielectric layers covering side faces and top portions of the metal layers, and second dielectric layers formed on the first dielectric layers and having an absorptivity to visible light higher than that of the first dielectric layers. Each of the second dielectric layers includes a first member disposed on one side face of two side faces in a lateral direction of the first dielectric layer, and a second member disposed on the other side face of the first dielectric layer, wherein the first member and the second member are overlapping at the top of the first dielectric layer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
