<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording and reproducing display device capable of recording automatically a program broadcasted while a user is away and allowing the returned user to view automatically the program broadcasted while the user is away. <P>SOLUTION: A controller 20 of a TV receiver 2 determines presence/absence of a user based on the respective results of a temperature detection part 28 and a brightness detection part 29. When the user who has been viewing a program is away, a recording part 25 records an image of the program and the recording part 25 reproduces the recorded image of the program when the user returns. The reproduced image is displayed on a liquid-crystal display panel 51 of a display 5.
