<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform scene determination by discriminating a foreground from a background. <P>SOLUTION: The photographing image of subjects (a flower 311, a mountain 312, and a field 313) is acquired as a determination target image (300). Subject distance information (a distance image 320) expressing a subject distance of each subject is acquired. Then, the determination target image is divided into areas, based on the subject distance information. For example, the whole image area of the determination target image is segmented into a division image area (301) where image data of the subject positioned on a foreground side exists and a division image area (302) where image data of the subject positioned on a background side exists.
