<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a support device for a laundry pole, which has excellent appearance, excellent rust resistance and a long product life, and which is safe to use and excellent in strength, at a low cost. <P>SOLUTION: In the support device for a laundry pole or the like, a support 1 is mounted with a support column 2 having a hanger 5 attached thereto. The support column 2 includes an upper outer cylinder 3 and a lower inner shaft 4. The inner peripheral surface of the outer cylinder 3 is provided with a pair of protrusive streaks 7 and 7 having four notch parts 8...8 at intervals, whose respective lower ends, namely, the upper end surfaces of the protrusive streaks 7 and 7, serve as locking parts 9...9. The inner shaft 4 is provided with two limiting grooves 11 and 11 and mounted with a retainer 6 on its upper end. The retainer 6 is provided with grooves similar to the limiting grooves 11 and 11 of the inner shaft 4, which are divided by partition parts 12 and 12 in their centers into one sides serving as passing grooves 13 and 13 and the other sides serving as abutting grooves 14 and 14.
