A video signal conversion device (recorder device) (1) is provided with a control unit (204) which sets a conversion mode, when processing an input stream to convert the stream into a recording-use stream, to either of a two-dimensional mode for converting the input stream to a two-dimensional recording-use stream, or a three-dimensional mode for converting the input stream to a three-dimensional recording-use stream; a control unit (204) which sets at least one recording mode for specifying a recording rate which can be used when performing conversion processing on a video signal in each of the two-dimensional and three-dimensional modes; and a signal processing unit (104) for processing the video signal on the basis of the set conversion mode and the set recording mode to convert the video signal into a recording-use video signal; wherein the control unit (204) sets the recording mode so that the combination of the recording modes which can be set when the two-dimensional mode is set and the combination of the recording modes which can be set when the three-dimensional mode is set differ.
