PURPOSE: A mobile payment system using a smart phone and method thereof are provided to enable a purchaser to easily acquire product information by providing the product information through a barcode. CONSTITUTION: A reading unit(121) decodes a barcode for a product. The reading unit extracts product information from the read barcode. A payment unit(125) detects payment application. The payment unit creates a transaction approval request message for a credit card payment service through credit card information stored in a memory unit and the detected product information. A communication unit(160) transmits the transaction approval request message to a payment proxy server through a wireless network. The communication unit receives a transaction approval result about the transaction approval request.
