<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for checking the external shape of belt-like members making it possible to know how the external shape of a belt-like member varies in the lengthwise direction of the member. <P>SOLUTION: An external shape checking apparatus for belt-like members prepares data for checkup use by arranging detected two-dimensional contour data in the lengthwise direction of a belt-shaped member, and extracts from the data for checkup use feature data of the external shape of the belt-like member indicating how the contour of the external shape of the belt-like member indicated by each set of the two-dimensional contour data varies in the lengthwise direction of the member. As each set of the feature data extracted from the data for checkup use therefore indicates how the thickness, positions of ends in the widthwise direction of the belt-like member, etc. vary in the lengthwise direction of the member, it reveals how the external shape of the belt-like member varies in the lengthwise direction of the member, which is a remarkable advantage for attempts to improve characteristics of tires. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
