<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative electrode for the lithium secondary battery capable of achieving the lithium secondary battery using at least one of silicon and a silicon alloy as a negative electrode active material and having superior charge/discharge cycle characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: A negative electrode 7 for the lithium secondary battery includes a negative electrode current collector and a negative electrode active material layer. The negative electrode active material layer is formed on the negative electrode current collector. The negative electrode active material layer contains a negative electrode active material particle containing at least silicon and the silicon alloy, and a binder. The binder is a polyimide resin formed by imidization of an anhydride of tetracarboxy or tetracarboxylic acid with diamine.
