摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique that heats an exhaust gas cleaning catalyst early when it needs warming-up, and avoids overheating the exhaust gas cleaning catalyst when it is overheated. <P>SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine includes: a turbine 4 of a supercharger 2 provided in an exhaust passage 3 in the internal combustion engine 1; the exhaust gas cleaning catalyst 7 provided in the exhaust passage 3 that is more downstream than the turbine 4; a bypass passage 8 that causes exhaust in the exhaust passage 3 that is more upstream than the turbine 4 to bypass the turbine 4, and flows the exhaust into the exhaust passage 3 that is more downstream than; and a bypass valve 10 that controls the flow rate of the exhaust discharged from the bypass passage 8 and that is controlled by an opening degree based on which the exhaust emitted from the bypass passage 8 collides with a passage wall when the exhaust gas cleaning catalyst 7 is likely to be overheated. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
