<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detergent composition for dry cleaning in which clothes etc., with various kinds of stains of water-soluble stains and oily stains adhering thereto can efficiently be washed; clothes can be dried at a high speed without causing shrinkage of the clothes; and safety can be ensured, and to provide a method for dry cleaning the clothes using the detergent composition. <P>SOLUTION: The clothes are treated with the detergent composition containing diethylene glycol diethyl ether, 3-methyl-3-methoxy-1-butanol, and water. The compounding concentration of the diethylene glycol diethyl ether and 3-methyl-3-methoxy-1-butanol is preferably 10-99 vol.% and 90-1 vol.%, respectively. The water content based on the total amount of the detergent composition is preferably 15-75 vol.%.
