PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for adaptive offset restoration.

SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a method of adaptive offset for processing processed video data, including the steps of: receiving the processed video data; selecting a region of the processed video data; determining a class of each of pixels in the region of the processed video data based on characteristic measurements of the pixels; determining an strength offset of the class based on the pixels in the region of the processed video data and pixels in regions associated with original video data; and compensating for the region of the processed video data based on the strength offset of the class.
