<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide metal foil for a secondary battery having less scrap produced when an opening is formed, which enables an increase in an opening ratio without decreasing strength, and also to provide a secondary battery which can suppress short-circuit due to generation of electrode waste. <P>SOLUTION: Metal foil 1 for the secondary battery includes: a metallic thin sheet 2; a plurality of first protrusions 3A formed on a first main surface 2a of the thin sheet 2 by plastic working; and a plurality of second protrusions 3B formed on a second main surface 2b on the side opposite to the first main surface 2a by plastic working.
