PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active material having enough discharge capacity, an electrode including the material, a lithium secondary battery having the electrode, and manufacturing method of the active material.

SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of the active material includes a hydrothermal synthesis process where a mixture composed of a lithium source, a pentavalent vanadium source, a phosphate source, water and a citric acid is heated to 200°C or more under pressure thereby LiVOPO4having a β type crystal structure is obtained.
