METHOD FOR PRODUCING ETHANOL AND SYSTEM FOR PRODUCING ETHANOL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing ethanol by which the ethanol is synthesized at a low cost from a synthesis gas obtained by gasifying biomass and containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide, and to provide a system for producing the ethanol usable for the method.

SOLUTION: The method for producing ethanol includes obtaining a product containing ethanol using a biomass gas containing at least hydrogen and carbon monoxide, and a catalyst containing at least rhodium and manganese. The system for producing ethanol includes: a floating external-heating type gasifier for gasifying biomass and obtaining biomass gas containing at least the hydrogen and carbon monoxide; a pressure swing adsorption type purifier for purifying the biomass gas; and an ethanol production apparatus for making the purified biomass gas flow through a reaction tube in which the catalyst containing at least rhodium and manganese is filled, and thereby producing ethanol.
