<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device by which an ink residual amount can be accurately determined on the basis of a residual amount detector for an ink cartridge. <P>SOLUTION: The ink cartridge 30 includes: a residual amount detector 33 in which a light transmission state varies on the basis of change of an ink amount stored in an ink chamber 36; a first projection 45 provided at a front side and an upper end side of an installation direction 56; a second projection 46 provided at a front side and a lower end side of the installation direction 56; and a detected piece 49 disposed at a front side of the installation direction 56 and between the first projection 45 and the second projection 46. A cartridge installing unit 110 includes optical sensors 114, 116, 117 and a controller 90 for executing determination of the kind of the ink cartridge 30 based on an output signal of the optical sensors 114, 116, 117 and then determining an ink residual amount in the ink chamber 36 based on a detection signal of the residual amount detector 33. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
