411,184. Tyre - grooving machines. ERRIG, W. F., 4821, C Street, Philadelphia, and PFUNDT, G. M., Churchville, Pennsylvania, both in U.S.A. Dec. 9, 1932, No. 35017. [Class 31 (i).] A tyre-grooving machine comprises a pair of rotatably mounted flanged tyre supporting rollers 8 extending between spaced standards 1, a flanged drive roller 23 rotated manually to revolve the tyre, and disposed at an inclination to the supporting rollers 8, the roller 23 being supported by a carriage 14 guided for up and down movement in the standards 1, a cutter 47 adapted to groove the tyre circumferentially, and a holder 38 for the cutter 47, which is movable along the carriage 14 and is provided with an index to co-operate with a scale 33 supported on the carriage 14 to determine the required spacing of the grooves to be cut, the cutter 47 being adjustable in the holder 38 to regulate the depth of the grooves to be cut. In the case of deflated tyres, universally movable compressive means 60, Fig. 4, are provided, adapted to support a tyre shoe 74 and roller 77 below the cutter 47 and the drive roller 23. In a modification, Fig. 10, the drive roller 23 is replaced by an unflanged drive roller 79 in conjunction with which the carriage is provided with downwardly directed arms 80, adapted to support coned rollers 82 which engage with one side of the tyre. |
