Disclosed are: an electrode active material which contains lithium titanate having a spinel structure as a main component and is capable of improving charge/discharge characteristics of a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery; a method for producing the electrode active material; and a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery which comprises the electrode active material. The electrode active material contains lithium titanate having a spinel structure and a strontium compound, and the molar ratio of lithium to titanium is less than 0.80.
