The pump has a pump element comprising a pump piston (3) that is moved into a hole (1) of a housing portion (2). The housing portion is indirectly supported over a plunger (4) and a roller (5) at a cam (6) or an eccentric cam of a drive shaft (7). The plunger is secured against rotation by a ball (9) that is retained in another hole (10) of the housing portion. The plunger is radially pre-tensioned under use of hydraulic force such that the ball is pushed into a longitudinal groove (8) of the plunger, where the ball is subjected with the force in a radial direction.
