AIRBAG DEVICE, AND DEPLOYMENT CONTROL METHOD THEREOF

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology capable of adequately controlling the deployment of an airbag by detecting the position of an occupant with a simple constitution.

SOLUTION: An airbag device: picks up an image of an occupant seated on a seat while an area including the seat having an airbag installed thereon is an image pickup range; irradiates the luminous flux for measurement to the image pickup range; recognizes the occupant shown up in the picked-up image by processing the picked-up image, and obtains the position of the occupant in the picked-up image; extracts the reflected light across the occupant out of the luminous flux for measurement out of the picked-up image, and obtains the distance from the reference position in the predetermined positional relationship to the light source for measurement to the occupant based on the reflected light; detects the position of the occupant seated on the seat based on the position of the occupant in the picked-up image and the distance; and controls the deployment of the airbag based on the position of the occupant.
