<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device having a high-speed response and a wide view angle, and applying a Kerr effect. <P>SOLUTION: A display device includes a pair of base plates facing each other, and a substance layer including a liquid crystal substance which is sandwiched between the pair of base plates and divided into subregions by a polymer material; and performs a display, by applying an electric field to the substance layer, using optical isotropy when applying no electric field and optical anisotropy when applying the electric field. The liquid crystal substance is in a nematic liquid crystal state showing orientational fluctuation and the correlation length (ξ) of the liquid crystal substance is from 0.100 μm to 1 μm. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
