<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve acquisition of a brighter and clearer viewing image with much ease. <P>SOLUTION: Of fluorescent light beams generated by applying illumination light to a sample 13, a fluorescent light beam incident on an objective lens 27 is received at a photodetector 31 and a fluorescent light beam incident on a condenser lens 32 is received at a photodetector 36, so that one viewing image is generated from outputs of these photodetectors. A computer 11 moves a stage 28 in an up and down direction and changes, when a plurality of viewing screens of the sample 13 are to be viewed, light sensitivity of the photodetector 31 and the photodetector 36 according to a position of the stage 28 in the up and down direction. In this case, a light sensitivity table of the photodetector 36 showing light sensitivity defined for each position of the stage 28 is generated by reversing a light sensitivity table of the photodetector 31 in the direction of the position.
