PURPOSE: A composition containing purified extract or fraction of Mountain Cultivated Ginseng Radix is provided to suppress cetylcholinesterase activity and to prevent and treat brain diseases. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating brain diseases contains purified extract or fraction of Mountain Cultivated Ginseng Radix leaves as an active ingredient. The brain diseases are amnesia, Lewis body disease, Pick's disease, Alzheimer's disease, stroke, Parkison's disease, or Huntington's disease. The fraction contains a purified material which is prepared by Kiesel gel column chromatography using chloroform and methanol. A health food for preventing and treating brain disease contains the extract or fraction as an active ingredient. The health food is powder, granule, tablet, capsule, syrup, or beverage.
