<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an intermediate of a cyclic carbodiimide compound. <P>SOLUTION: A compound (A) represented by o-halogen-substituted nitrobenzene or o-dinitrobenzene nitro, and pentaerythritol (B) are reacted together in the presence of a phase transfer catalyst and aqueous solution of an alkali metal hydroxide, to thereby acquire a nitro compound shown by a chemical formula (C).
