<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric chain block which smoothly performs floating control at high operability even when winding or unwinding at middle or high speed, and a control method thereof. <P>SOLUTION: A winding or unwinding speed detector 18 detects a speed of winding or unwinding of a winding/unwinding motor 4. A moving average time calculator 19 calculates a moving average time to perform moving average processing corresponding to winding or unwinding speed of the winding/unwinding motor 4. A load detector 20 detects a load on the electric chain block 1 and performs sampling of detected loads during moving average time. A load average value calculator 21 performs moving average processing that sampled loads are averaged over moving average time, and then calculates a load average value on the electric chain block 1.
