The system has a set of solar modules electrically connected over a connecting line (4), where the solar modules are switched in a series manner. The connecting line is permanently separated between the solar modules by a mechanical separator (1). The mechanical separator is arranged at a connecting cable and/or at a connection box. The mechanical separator is integrated into the solar module. The mechanical separator comprises a split pin (5) interrupting connection of the connecting line. An independent claim is also included for a method for retrofitting a photovoltaic system.
