The method involves obtaining data generated by an electronic tachograph (3) embarked in a heavy vehicle (1) and dated with current date on which the data is obtained from the electronic tachograph. The obtained data is signed with a tachograph signature. The data is transmitted toward a verification device (5) that includes a verifying unit for verifying integrity of data from the signature and a generation unit for generating information representative of existence or absence of evidence of operation of fleet management equipment (2) at the current date.
