PURPOSE: A monitoring apparatus for a roll member of a rolling mill is provided to easily recognize the lateral movement and an abnormal operation of a roll member by monitoring the movement of the roll member and a choke member supporting the roll member in real time. CONSTITUTION: A monitoring apparatus for a roll member of a rolling mill comprises a first measuring unit(30), a control unit(60), an output unit(70), and a second measuring unit(40). The first measuring unit measures the axial moving distance of a roll member(10) for a rolling mill(1). The control unit receives a measured value from the first measuring unit and determines the normal operation of the roll member. The output unit is connected to the control unit and outputs whether the roller member normally operates. The second measuring unit is connected to the control unit and measures the axial moving distance of a choke member(15) supporting the roll member. The first and second measuring units use laser sensors.
