<p>A method for manufacturing an optical connector, comprising:
embedding a length of at least one optical fiber in a body to form an assembly using bonding material;
placing a wax covered plate (18) over said at least one optical fiber and pressing it against the assembly to remove some of said bonding material;
removing said plate (18) and any remaining wax (80) by heating the assembly at or above the melting point of said wax; and
wherein the curvature of said at least one fiber allows a lensing effect to aid in the coupling of light.</p>
