In an image processing apparatus that generates a stereo image data set by calculating a distance to a subject according to a pair of image data sets each comprising grayscale images of a plurality of colours obtained by photographing the subject from two viewpoints, the pair of image data sets is inputted, and the grayscale image of one of the colours that is most appropriate for calculating the distance is selected among the grayscale images of the plurality of colours constituting at least one of the inputted image data sets. The distance is calculated based on the grayscale image of the selected colour and the grayscale image of the colour in the other image data set. |
