Method for pulsed operation of a light barrier and light barrier

The method involves sending electromagnetic radiation over a transmitting time period by a transmitting device, and receiving radiation measured values of the radiation at measuring time points (24) by a detector. A determination is made to check whether an external light beam is present on the detector by examining a measured value curve of the measured values. A cycle is implemented in normal and compensation modes during absence and presence of the beam, respectively. A compensation measure is accomplished in the compensation mode to compensate influence of the beam. An independent claim is also included for a light barrier comprising a detector.
