&eegr;-cyclopentadienyl-tri(&sgr;-hydrocarbyl) platinum compounds in which the cyclopentadienyl ring is linked to a hydrolysable silyl group by an alkylene group are effective light-activated hydrosilylation catalysts which are also non-volatile.
