The present invention relates to a porous material that comprises a clay substrate modified by means of a pore-generating agent and at least one oxide of a metal selected from the first transition series. Furthermore, the invention relates to a method for obtaining said material and to the use of said material for desulphurizing gaseous streams, especially for the elimination of H 2 S.
