The hearing aid has functional elements partially arranged in a housing. A function surface is partially or completely coveringly formed with a cholesteric LCD (17) on an outer housing surface. The function surface is coupled at a driver device (16) such that an appearance of the function surface is varied in a process-controlled manner. An alphanumeric display (18) is formed at the housing by the LCD. The LCD is formed with multiple segments and designed in a multilayer construction. The LCD has a coating thickness of less than 70 micrometers.
