The device has a crankshaft wheel (11a) provided at a clinch drive (10a) for attachment to a crankshaft (12a). Multiple camshaft wheels (13a-16a) i.e. gear wheels, are attached to respective camshafts (17a-20a). An intermediate gear unit (21a) is provided for realization of two translation stages between the crankshaft wheel and the camshaft wheel, and comprises multiple non-round shape intermediate stage wheels (22a-24a). One of the intermediate stage wheels is formed as a primary wheel, which is coupled to the crankshaft wheel for providing one of the translation stages.
