The heat exchanger (10) has exchanging sections (1, 1') arranged in an inner side of a common housing (2), and pipelines (4) connected to the exchanging sections for removing heat from vapor-containing exhaust air that is exchanged with washing liquid i.e. water. A pipe plate is arranged in the exchanging sections, and an outlet pipe is provided for removing condensate of the vapor-containing exhaust air from a circuit including a heating section. Indirect exchanging surfaces are dissipated with a secondary medium e.g. water or glycol, and a pipe supplies expansion stream to the exhaust air. An independent claim is also included for a method for removing heat from vapor-containing exhaust air.
