A child carrier comprises a first harness 1 to engage with the upper torso of a person and a step 4 connected to the harness which in use lies adjacent the bottom of the back of the upper torso of the person, in use a child can stand upright on the step to be transported by the person. A second harness 10 may be provided to prevent a child falling back on the step. A storage pouch 20 may also be provided. Preferably the step 4 is a fabric step and may include stiffening battens 7. The step 4 may also be inclined to project feet towards a person carrying the child. Also disclosed is a child carrier which has a fabric seat in the form of pants which can be connected to a shoulder harness.
