The method involves heating a region of a metallic sheet (2) by heating devices (1) provided with electrodes (6). Arcs (38) are produced in the heating devices in protective gas atmosphere (12) by passing current flow between the electrodes and a surface area (3) of the metallic sheet, where the heating devices are arranged at distance from each other. The arcs are produced by applying high frequency alternating voltage between the metallic sheets and the electrodes such that alternating current is produced. An independent claim is also included for a device for aligning metallic sheets, comprising heating devices.
