Device for detecting the condition of a gearbox

The device has a position sensor (3) fixed to a casing of a gearbox and associated with a shifter lever (2) that slides longitudinally with respect to the casing between multiple selection positions. The sliding of the lever between the selection positions causes rotation of a ring (31) of the sensor such that the sensor provides information relative to angular offset between another ring (32) of the sensor and the former ring and representing longitudinal position of the lever with respect to the casing between the positions. The former ring is associated with the lever by a helical link. An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle comprising a gearbox.
