<p>A mechanism to prevent overcharging or undercharging in communication networks is disclosed. The present invention relates to communication networks and, more particularly, to charging in communication networks. In case of communication networks when there is a failure in the network and the session is released, the charging modules are not immediately informed about the session release. Thus, it results in overcharging or undercharging. The method discloses a mechanism wherein on release of the session, the softswitch sends accurate intimation to the charging module even under different communication network/node failure conditions. The intimation may be in the form of the time stamp that gives an indication of the time of release of the session. The charging module on receiving the indication stops charging for the session and prevents overcharging or undercharging.</p> |
