<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a freeze-dried composition of an inactivated virus envelope exhibiting membrane fusion activities that can be stored at higher temperatures while retaining the ability to introduce foreign substances, and to provide a method for introducing foreign substances into the inside of cells that exhibits higher activities for introducing foreign substances. <P>SOLUTION: The freeze-dried composition for introducing foreign substances comprises an inactivated virus envelope exhibiting the membrane fusion activities and at least one stabilizer selected from the group consisting of protein hydrolysates, leucine, L-argininic acid, and polysaccharides.
