The method involves detecting one or more visual features of an object e.g. child (9), ball (10) and obstruction (7). The object is mapped to object categories based on given rating for the features, where the categories indicates whether assistance is required for an operator of a motor vehicle (1). One of the objects is mapped to the category indicating that assistance is not required for the operator based on the visual feature in a sub-category for another given rating. The operator is assisted in accordance with the sub-category. An independent claim is also included for a device for assisting an operator of a motor vehicle, comprising a detection unit. |
