Method for forming a marked coated cementitious substrate

A method for forming a marked coated cementitious substrate is disclosed where the method comprises the steps of treating at least a portion of an uncoated cementitious substrate to form indicia; and applying a surface coating on said cementitious substrate to at least partially cover said indicia such that a marking is formed. The etching process may utilize a laser. The cementitious substrate may be in its cured or its ‘green’ form. Also disclosed is a method of forming a marked coated cementitious material which comprises coating a cementitious substrate and removing part of the coating by irradiation.
